Here are 12 things that you shouldn’t say to a farrier, for your amusement:
*Thank goodness you’re here! My previous farrier declined to return after the third concussion.
*My apologies for not disclosing that he tends to kick. Are you all right down there?
*Oops. I forgot to bring the money. Would it be acceptable to pay you next time?
*I figured I would let them roam free until your arrival, considering it’s a pleasant day. They should be at the other end of the 80-acre field, and it shouldn’t take me more than an hour to catch them.
*We appear to have depleted our supply of teabags/milk/coffee/sugar
*It must be wonderful to work outside all day! (spoken in the middle of winter when your farrier’s nose is blue, they have a hacking cough, and they’re waving their hands in front of the forge to feel their fingers).
*She has misplaced a shoe. Could you come out within the next hour? If not, perhaps this evening or tomorrow morning? You don’t seem very flexible!
*Yes, I applied a good layer of hoof oil to her feet just before you arrived. Doesn’t she look lovely?
*Did I not inform you that I required stud holes/road nails/extra quarter clips? Could you remove them and begin again?
*How amusing – he also did the same thing to my last two farriers! Isn’t he a quirky character?
*She lost that shoe a few weeks ago, but I decided to wait until the others required attention.
*I didn’t have enough time to clean the mud off, but that’s not a problem, is it?
